Hi there! I’m a freelance content creator and graphic designer, and I often need a printer to complete my projects. While I wasn’t very good with printers at first, I have become quite proficient over the years. I even help friends and neighbours fix theirs from time to time. The printer I have used the most is a Canon Bluetooth printer. Though I have also worked with wireless printers, most of my tasks have been completed using Bluetooth models.
I understand how confusing it can be to connect a printer. That’s why I’m sharing the simplest steps to connect a Canon printer to a device via Bluetooth. Whether you are a student, freelancer, or office worker, this blog is made for you.
Steps to Connect Canon Bluetooth Printer to a Computer
Most users connect their Canon printers to a computer. I also fall into this category. Let’s check how to connect this printer to a computer via Bluetooth.
Note: If your Canon printer has a Bluetooth button, don’t forget to turn it on before proceeding with the connection.
For Windows
Turn on your Windows computer and click the Start menu on the taskbar at the bottom left of the screen.
Then, search for Settings and select Bluetooth & Devices.
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
Click “Printers and Scanners,” then select the “Add device” option next to “Add a printer or scanner.”
Select your printer model from the available list on the screen.
You’ll see a confirmation message such as “Connected” or “Paired.”
That’s how to connect a Canon printer to a Windows computer.
For Mac
Turn on your Mac computer, and go to the Apple menu.
Then, select System Preferences (System Settings on newer models).
Select the Bluetooth option, and ensure it’s turned on.
Wait until you see your printer’s name listed in the available printers.
Select your Canon printer by clicking the Connect option.
Finally, the printer is connected to a Mac computer. You’re now ready to start printing through your Canon printer. However, ensure that your computer has printer drivers installed.
If you’re not familiar with the term, let me explain. Printer drivers are software that help your printer and computer work together properly by understanding each other’s language. I’ll show you how to install them later in this blog.
Steps to Connect Canon Bluetooth Printer to a Smartphone
If you’re someone who wants to use a smartphone with a printer, I’ll tell you how to do that. Mobile printing is a modern and convenient way to print.
For Android
Open the Settings app on your Android device, then select Bluetooth.
Toggle on the Bluetooth option and let the phone scan available Bluetooth devices.
Select your printer model name when it appears on the list.
Open the Google Play Store and search for the Canon PRINT Inkjet/ SELPHY app.
Install it, and open it. Also, allow the app to access Bluetooth, storage, and location.
The app will scan for your Canon printer automatically.
The Canon PRINT app may also ask you to update firmware. Go with the instructions.
You can use the Canon PRINT app to start printing.
For iOS
Go to Settings on the iPhone or iPad and turn on the Bluetooth option.
Let the device scan your printer and pair it.
To start printing a document, go to the App Store and install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app.
Open it, and allow it to access Bluetooth, storage, and location.
Now, you can open any document on the phone and click the Share button.
Then, you can click Print to start printing that document.
Important Note: You can only print when the Canon PRINT app is installed on your smartphone.
How to Download Canon Printer Drivers on a Computer?
As I mentioned, I’ll share the steps to obtain the printer drivers. Note that printer drivers are installed only on computers. For mobile devices, you need the Canon PRINT app. So, if you are using a computer, use these steps:
Step 1: Download Drivers
Visit usa.canon.com/support on an internet browser and type your Canon printer model in the given field.
Scroll down and select your operating system under the Software & Drivers section.
Now, select any driver package from the list, and click the Download button next to it.
Now, the driver’s file will be saved in your Downloads folder.
Step 2: Install Drivers
Locate the Downloads folder on your desktop and double-click the driver’s file.
A new window will open. Allow the driver’s file to make changes to your computer.
Let the driver’s file install.
Finally, a new page will appear to guide you through the setup of your Canon printer. Hopefully, you have understood the process to connect a Canon Bluetooth printer to your computer or mobile device. Now, you’re ready to start printing.
